It seems my wife has found a bug (actually two). She wanted to move some already renamed and *commented* photos from one folder to another. No nautilus involved. So gThumb offers several ways to do so:
1) prepare new folder in the left menu, manually select the photos to be moved, drag & drop them to the new folder. The problem is that everybody would expect photos to move, but they are copied. I believe gThumb should follow the way files are moved in nautilus and other common file managers.
2) prepare new folder in the left menu, manually select the photos to be moved, ctrl+x, go to the new folder, ctrl+v. This works. Photos are finally moved. However we've found out, that .comments folder is copied, i.e. it stays in the original folder.
Thanks to all developers for their hard work. I hope that after fixing these bugs the use of gThumb will be more comfortable.
P.S. Thanks for 2.13.1!
