It turned out to be caused by the calls to gdk_window_process_updates(),
so I've removed them for now. I'm not sure if I need to replace them
with anything. Maybe we just don't need them now.

This was a bug in pixman, and is fixed in 0.19.4.


So it should all be working again now.
