What am I doing wrong here?
Well, I found the solution, I think.
As indicated in many forums, I had redirected ~/.config/gtk-3.0 to a
theme of (almost) my liking, FlatStudioDark. But it seems that XFCE,
through a mechanism I haven't found out yet, calls the theme selected by
its 'Appearance-settings' after the redirected gtk-3.0 theme.
So, effectively, two themes were fighting to control the appearance. As
per CSS, the last one won, but some changes of the first (mine) did
continued to seep through, and caused confusion.
I now found out how to define my modified theme with its own name, so
it appears on the XFCE theme list... Issue solved.
My apologies for the noise.
John
