absolute cell addresses in formulas

Hello,

Using gnumeric 1.7.14, I find it has now taken to inserting 
absolute (dollarized) cell addresses when I start a formula with 
'=' and click on a cell.  This is rarely what I want.  Is this a 
change of policy, or have I inadvertently flipped a switch 
somewhere?  If the latter, how can I flip it back, please?
