F2 and cursor positioning

Pressing F2 in an occupied cell sends the cursor to the start
instead of the end of the cell.  Is this configurable in 1.6.2?
(Version 1.4.2 seems to do the right thing on an old RH box.)
I'm using MDV cooker on x86_64.

Or maybe it's breakage in the Gnome text box widget...
