I am trying to connect Gnumeric to a SQLite database using Debian
unstable. At http://www.gnome-db.org/apps.php it says
"Gnumeric, the GNOME Spreadsheet, lets you insert data coming from a
database into your sheets, by making use of the working-again GDA
plugin" which sounds like what I want.
I am familiar with SQLite and Gnumeric but have never used
Gnumeric with a database backend. It is not clear to me what packages
to load and what to do; gnumeric-gda seems to have vanished a few
years ago but the description for gnumeric-plugins-extra says it has:
o The gda (Gnome Database Access) plugin
 o The GNOME-DB plugin
which sounds promising.
Then for good measure I installed gda2-sqlite, libgnomedb2-4, and
mergeant. I ran mergeant and I think configured my database
information. I also ran gnome-database-properties. Then in gnumeric I
select a column and put in =execSQL (using "" for both username and
password) and do shift-return and ... nothing.
A conversation on #gnumeric led me here. What is the state of db
access from Gnumeric? What steps do I need to take? I don't
necessarily need to use Debian-packaged versions, though I'd prefer
that; I can build cvs versions if necessary.
Any help or tips appreciated.
Liam
