gnumeric with postgres data

I am trying to display Postgres data in Gnumeric. I believe I am running into Bug 335295 because when I 
follow the steps listed there, I get all zeros in the array instead of any of my data (different from Bryce 
getting partial data). Am I supposed to select the whole range of cells for data I expect it to return (not 
including a row for column headers) or has this changed? (I'm using gnumeric v 1.4.3, gdp 1.0.1, postgres 
8.1.2.)
I am hoping to use Gnumeric as a frontend for displaying and even editing and returning Postgres data. Are 
there any tools other than the execSQL function that do this?
