Question about gconf

After recently compiling Gnumeric 1.4.1, the configuration files
no longer work.  My previous version was 1.2.12 as compiled by 
Slackware. I do not use Gnome desktop if that is relevant. My last
used history file from 1.2.12 is at
  ~/.gconf/apps/gnumeric/core/file/history/%gconf.xml
This has been untouched by 1.4.1.  Other configuration changes are 
unsaved also.  Any ideas?

Also is there any way to make recalculation manual?  I have some spread 
sheets with many lookups in large tables.  Table maintenance is 
painfully slow.

I've been a Gnumeric user for several years, like it very much and have 
only minor problems exchanging with Excel users.  Keep up the good 
work.
