In a nutshell, the printed (and previewed) output does not look

is more easily tolerated.

Am I missing something in the setup of my fonts? Surely,
Gnumeric is WYSIWYG. BTW, all of the installed fonts seem
available to Gnumeric in its Font list.

Unfortunately some fonts (most fonts) vary in character widths between
various resolutions. So if you were to print at screen resolution
everything would look exactly as on screen (but of course fonts at
screen resolution look ugly when printed.)

You might be able to format your spreadsheet better if you look at it in
600% enlargement or so. The font widths of large size fonts at low
resolution are probably more proportional to the font width of small
fonts at high resolutions.
