damn.  That is exactly the same type of file as last time.  Its
basicly just a gzip header, no actual data.  Do you have any logs or
ideas what might have happened ?  1.1.16 was a long time ago, there
will be a 1.1.18 shortly, but this is kinda scary.  Please if at all
possible run gnumeric with something like
    gnumeric >>& ~/gnumeric.log (for csh/tcsh)

To see if there are any hints
