compile error (libtool)

Hi,

please help. i don't know what's going on. this problem is not gnumeric specific,
but i thought you may help me. when i try to compile gnumeric (or gtkhtml-1.0.0) 
i get the following error in the last linking step:

libtool: link: cannot find the library `/var/tmp/freetype2-build/usr/lib/libfreetype.la

freetype2 and freetype2-devel are installed (suse 7.1) and a library named /usr/lib/libfreetype.la
exists. so i don't understand why libtool searches in /var/tmp.
