gnome application libs (gal) question

Hi,

I've managed to overcome most of the problems with compiling
gnumeric 0.65, but I've found another.  The configure script is
looking for "Gnome Application Libs (GAL) > 0.8."  Is this the
same as the gnome-libs libraries?  I have version 1.2.1
installed, and I have the gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/lib.  

I had a look around www.gnome.org and searched on freshmeat but
couldn'f find any hits.

I'd ask this question on #gnumeric irc, but I can't see to 
connect to irc.gimp.org.
