Gnumeric manual and function reference not working

Dear People, 

When I go to the tab to pull down the manual or function reference,
gnumeric gives the following 

Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1

and nothing comes up. I am using gnumeric 0.64. The compilation went
smoothly, and everything I have checked otherwise seems to work Ok. The
only thing is that in the compilation I got the following.

checking for gda-config... no
configure: warning: GDA plugin will not be built

Is this possibly related to the above problem. Even if it is not, what is
the GDA plugin, what will it do for me, and how do I get gda-config? I
have installed all the packages that seem necessary.
