I've installed libole2 2.0 using the normal config.  Then usign the
prefix /usr/lib/gnome-lib


This seems wrong.
Try prefix=/usr

The target prefix should either be the same as gnome-libs or
you need to set the env var
    GNOME_PATH
to include the prefix you installed into.
