So this is being caused by the NoteOfTheDay addin. I suspect this is
one of those std::string and Glib::ustring messes. I can notice some
strange behaviour with LANGUAGE set to bn_IN, where the translated
"Tasks" and "Appointments" strings do not appear on the note. It would
be nice to know your locale.
