I upgraded again to experiment a bit.
I'm using kernel 2.6.16.9, so DMIX should work out of the box. I am
using a .asoundrc anyway, similar to the one in the Ekiga-wiki. I tried
a bunch of variations, no success. It used to work perfectly until I
upgraded to libasound2 1.0.11-3.
With libasound2 1.0.11 the sound is bad, no matter whether I use a
.asoundrc or not. Ekiga tends to crash or hang in addition to playing
bad sound.
Other applications using DMIX through the default interface work fine.
(At least playback, I didn't try recording and playing at the same time.)
Downgraded to libasound2 1.0.10 again.
Regards,
Hannes
