ok. so the behaviour of arecord may not be exactly the same as
gnomemeeting, although they're both using the same libs.
i would have thought that arecord exiting immediately unless it's given a
recording duration would be a problem with arecord, rather than the
library? arecord appears to be defaulting to a duration of zero, rather
than "forever". is the recording duration a library function too?
