Do recent versions still work?

As far as I know yes. It's an an add on that you have to install.

I thought they had dropped SIP support.
I also think there is a difference between Windows Messenger and MSN
Messenger, is it the case?
Yes, not the same. I'm just installing a new desktop with win2k, so I will install it and send result to the list.

OK. I installed Messenger 5.0 from http://messenger.microsoft.com (version compatible with my win2k), went in tools->options->account and activate communications services SIP and I'm registred to my asterisk box ;-) Should be the same with XP but I do not have such an computer for test.

I'm still learning about windows :)

Complicate world, no ? ;-)

I think they use some sort of SIP but it might be quite damaged in terms of compability with the SIP standard but I am not sure we will se this later when we get some SIP support in Gnomemeeting.

SIP is an extension that you can add to Messenger. One version was broken (4 if I good remember) but last one should be fully SIP compatible. For those who are interested, this is a setup to work with asterisk
