Here is a update to my original problem.
After Jonny Strom reviewed my output from ksymoops on my kerenl oops, he
suggested it might be hardware problems and that I should try running
memtest86 on my system.
After running memtest86, It did idicate that I did indeed
have a bad memory stick. After swapping the ram in/out and rerunning
the tests after each swap I did get a clean ram test.
I have yet do rerun the apps that were causing the kernel oops, which I
will do later today and will post to the list of what I find.
Many thanks go out to Jonny, Damien and others who have made many
suggestions on solving this problem.
