It did fix the problem, but when I subsequently tried to compile openh323,
it could not find ptlib. So I resorted to the default --prefix=/usr

Well, I'll have to give up then.

Unfortunately it is not an option. We are using some commercial binaries
that are well anchored into RH 7.1, so they control our when we upgrade
the OS.
