Well I don't know what happens on your system, but I'm certain that if
the message says that /dev/dsp1 is set as recording device, it should
work. But again, it is not clear for me.
* Could you choose /dev/dsp1 without having to add it manually yourself
in the preferences? I mean, was /dev/dsp1 a valid choice? 
* Have you played with the mixer settings of GnomeMeeting ? What is the
volume of your micro ?

I don't understand why it doesn't work. Perhaps is it a problem with
Netmeeting that doesn't play the sent sound. Because I can confirm you
that I am using your setup, with the same webcam, every day, and that
this part of the code hasn't changed since the early days of
GnomeMeeting.
