autogen requires the gnome devel dependancies to be able to generate the
configure script. "--disable-gnome" is passed to configure after
"configure" has been created by autogen, so the behavior is normal.
However, after having created a correct "configure" script, running
"configure --disable-gnome" should skip the documentation generation.
