Thanks, that helps - but it still doesn't work :-(
The tool reports:

$ gnome-abrt
WARNING:root:Can't connect to DBus system bus
'org.freedesktop.problems' path '/org/freedesktop/problems': The name
org.freedesktop.problems was not provided by any .service files
