Brainstorming external panels: guidelines/considerations/API

Hi, everyone,

I've started this wiki page:

And I need some help :)

I think it would be useful to have examples of how distros have extended
the control center, to explain the rationale behind those changes - and
later, to evaluate whether these are sensible additions or not.  Maybe
we can factor out common aspects of these modifications, so that we can
draft the guidelines that Jon mentioned.

So, if you know a distro well, please make your additions in that
page :)
