Well. This is exactly the problem: There is always someone who is
disagreeing, no matter what you create. We have seen over the years that
"design by committee" does not really work at all.
How about trusting Andreas on this?
He's been doing nice work, and he has spent quite a lot of effort by
adapting and cleaning up Garrett's photograph into a wallpaper. If we
want to keep artists like him around, we really need to pay attention to
this.

Saying "its not following the HIG" just because you don't like it
personally does not really work. I don't think the leaf wallpaper has
anything wrong in the "HIG" sense. It does not have too many details as
to make icon labels hard to read, and it is not distracting. Plus green
is a nice, pleasant colour to look at.
The blue gradient wallpapers are nice too, but they look almost too shy
to me - as to not poke any reaction from anyone. We want to make a
fresh, good impression when the user logs in the first time.

The "Visual Design" section of the HIG does not speak about "abstract"
at all. And I found nothing in there that would claim the leaf wallpaper
would be unacceptable in any way. Please, if you refer to the HIG, refer
to the HIG, don't just pull stuff out of your hat :-)

Since you put a lot of bullet points here, it would be nice to see some
proof to these claims also? Have you tested different wallpapers (we
artists on #gnome-themes do not count, as we already have our own
preference)
