As an update to the icon part, yesterday evening I spoke with Marina
and she told me there's already some code for the thumbnails (using
libgnome) in the C part of Shell which I hadn't noticed, so I adapted
that to work with Zeitgeist and I'll forget about the ThumbnailerSpec
for now. That code also fails for text/plain and the like so now I'm
looking at what I can use as a fallback (probably the same
GtkRecentlyUsed uses).
