Project: Implement local map rendering of OpenStreetMap data in libchamplain.
Report: Week 1
As mentioned in my application, my holidays start on the 29th of May. So I had lectures and exams in the first week of the GSoC.
My progress so far:
* I re-evaluated the rendering library. I originally intended to use Mapnik[1], which has the drawback of heavy C++ dependencies. The new selection is Memphis[2], which is based on GLib and Cairo. It is not as feature complete as Mapnik, but it will be the better choice in the long run.
* Read about the beauty of GObjects.
* Created a GObject based API for Memphis.
* Started to restructure Memphis into a library.
