Hello,
I've been experiencing trouble with Gnome Shell on just one of my
Haswell-based systems since this past summer, and I'm trying to
resolve it.
Hardware:
Intel i7-4770 w/ Intel HD Graphics 4600
1920x1080 Monitor connected via HDMI
1920x1200 Monitor connected via DP
Software:
Fedora 20 x86_64
gnome-shell-3.10.3-8
xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.21.15-5
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.14.4-6
Problem:
This problem occurs intermittently, but typically several times per
hour. When it occurs, I cannot go into overview mode using either
super or the top-left hot corner. When I use the hot corner, the
ripple animation occurs, but overview mode does not open. Furthermore,
I cannot click on any other window to give it focus. Mouse clicks and
typing still works on the active window. Additionally, I can
successfully use alt+tab to switch to another application, and then,
input works on that application. When this problem occurs, I see the
following messages in the journal:
Feb 25 19:30:20 localhost gnome-session[1674]:

This problem is *always* resolved by switching over to a different tty
and back to Gnome (no need to login or run any commands). The only
messages that appear in the journal are:
Feb 25 19:30:25 localhost systemd[1]: Starting Getty on tty2...
Feb 25 19:30:25 localhost systemd[1]: Started Getty on tty2.
I use a variety of other computers with Gnome Shell -- Intel i5-2500K
(HD Graphics 3000), Intel i7-3520M (HD Graphics 4000), and Intel
i7-4600U (HD graphics 4400), and none of them experience this
behavior. All of these systems are running Fedora 20 with the exact
same up to date packages.
Is there any way to fix this problem, or does anyone have any insight
into what is happening?
Thanks,
Justin
