Thanks, using that now. For Skype there's a really good extension which
works like I wish all system tray implementations should.

applications like that under Gnome Shell since they do not show up
in
the top right with the other icons. I know they are accessible at
the
bottom with a key combo, but I wonder how people work with
applications
like that on Gnome Shell.
