Hi,
This sounds reasonable to me. We also have some other mutter bugs open
for odd behaviors for new window placement.
I'd love having "smart windows" positioning (as called by KDE and
Compiz; it basically tries to maximise the space used by new windows,
instead of stacking the newest just below the decorations of the
previous opened one). However, I kind of remember that devs were against
it some times ago. Is "no smart positioning" still the official position?
I'm not really clear on what rules it uses now.

Using two monitors myself, I think that the current behaviour of a new
window is to usually spawn on the monitor hosting the mouse pointer.
I'll check this pattern tomorrow, when I get back to office.
