...and to show just how bad Mutter's compositing is, check out these 2 screenshots the one that looks normal is gnome2 + compiz++, the messed up one is obviously Gnome-Shell mutter. this is a good example, but there is lots of crap like this in gnome-shell with applications that use 3d acceleration in similar ways. what you are looking at is right-clicking on an object - it pulls up the neat spiral/circular-hinge menu that while holding down the right-click, you can rotate to whatever option/mode/parameter you need to access. it's also good to keep in mind, that applications like the one's that i first wrote about in my post, actually tell you to disable compositing for the best performance. even jackd works better without compositing (although, i have problems on that front). where does that leave all of these applications in the future of gnome-shell?? Hopefully, Fallback will be not only maintained, but also as fully featured gnome2 (or better)... and also fallback should be maintained - being just as important as gnome-shell. (as i doubt anyone in enterprise linux will want to use gnome-shell even five years from now, they might just want a "simple" gnome environment - i would. take a look, i've attached screenshots. the difference should be obvious. lol. jordan
