Fullscreen Applications and the Gnome Shell

When playing games or using a fullscreen application its useful to
sometimes minimise it, however when using the gnome shell this is not
possible, pressing start or the key combo to move workspace does not
work. Would it be possible for the shell to reserve these bindings?
