1. I think its by design. when an app is running right click on its icon and click add to favourtes will keep it there.
2. Yes gnome-shell is slow for me but I am using a netbook so its not a fault of gnome-shell (I wish it ran smooth on my netbook) when 3-4 apps are open gnome-shell becomes dead slow (this is an issue from the start)

I upgraded to 2.29 using the Ricotz testing PPA for Karmic 64-bit. A few issues I noticed:
1. There are no applications listed in the applications menu initially. If however you browse the home directory, open a few files from there (.htm, multimedia files), then the menu is filled with applications, and is usable after that.
2. Window transitions are not smooth. They are slow & jittery, and hence dampen the experience a lot.
Hope to find a solution for these.
