Chances are that ~/.gnome2/session ends up containing some application
that doesn't exist on Solaris, or that doesn't work, and so the
session manager waits for a several-minute timeout for that thing to
start up.
If that's the problem it's possible you could fix it by symlinking the
relevant binary name to /bin/false or the like.
