You need to remove MC from the gnome-session and add sawfish instead.
The way I did this:

while running Gnome
- open a terminal 
- enter a command
	pkill metacity && sawfish &
after that you will se some screen flickering while metacity shuts down
and a moment later sawfish starts up.

If for some reason sawfish does not start and you end up with a desktop
without window decorations try to click in the terminal window and enter
the command sawfish & again to start it finally

Once sawfish is running there is one thing left to do:

Log out of Gnome and _important_ save the session on the logout screen

alternatively you can enter the command gnome-session-save in a terminal

next time you start Gnome sawfish should be running instead of metacity.
