That FAQ is a little out of date now. DeviceKit-power should be much
better getting state from the kernel these days. You're best bet is to
use devkit-power (the client tool) and try to work out why
gnome-power-manager is suspending. You can run gnome-power-manager
with the --verbose switch, and it'll spit out a lot of technical
debugging.
