[gpm] Making Screen Even Dimmer Than Brightness Applet Allows

Is there a config file, or some other way to get even more control
over screen brightness?

I'm particularly interested in getting a very dim screen for astronomy
purposes (where even the dimmest screen the brightness applet allows
for is way too bright for dark-adapted eyes).

I was very excited to see the brightness panel work start supporting
my machine in later versions of Ubuntu, by the way,  so thanks for
that! Before, my screen would get darker, but the backlight would stay
the same, so this is much better.
