If the kernel + udev is configured properly, you should just need to point to /dev/pilot, and "It Should Just Work(tm)", without worrying about which of the usb endpoints the device wants to use. The benefit of this (mostly for those with flaky usb controllers and external usb hubs) is that when the device detaches prematurely and you reconnect too fast, /dev/ttyUSB4 will still be pointing to /dev/pilot on the next reconnect. -- David A.
