Hi,

You are not alone.  See the following bug report (quite lengthy)
for gnome-pilot on Ubuntu Dapper:

It seems that the current kernel and/or udev packages being shipped
with Dapper are at fault.  Most people who have upgraded to a 2.6.17
kernel have found that resolved their problems.

If you do upgrade, there's at least one other 'gotcha' you might
suffer from.  pilot-link 0.11.8, as shipped with Ubuntu, can't deal
with certain pdb/prc files (because they don't conform
to Palm's own specifications, but that's neither here nor there...).
