I'm not sure how to check this, but here is the command I used to
configure gnome-pilot:

./configure --prefix=`gnome-config --prefix` --with-pisock=/usr/local --with-vfs --disable-oaf 

I got this from the Howto previously mentioned.  Also note that I did this under a tcsh.
