I did. Otherwise would synching start at all?

I most definitely currently need it. Do you mean that I *shouldn't* need
it? (When in doubt, blame my English :-) )

gpilotd is installed. Before I have started gnome-control-center for the
first time after booting, no gpilotd process is running. When I open and
close the "Palm OS Devices" applet in the control center, the process is
running, even if I close the control center. Synching only starts with
the control center open; in the moment the Treo signals that synching
has ended, the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock lights start flashing, and I
have to reboot.

Logging into Gnome?
I am using KDE; I have several Gnome packages installed, though. I start
Evolution and the control center as non-root. This is a (hopefully

Is anything missing? What processes should be running when I start
Evolution 1.4 so that I'd be able to sync?

Good point. No, I'm running 2.4.20. I'll try upgrading to 2.4.21.
Thanks.
