What I did under redhat was:

  rpm -e --nodeps pilot-link gnome-pilot
  <build new pilot-link>
  <build new gnome-pilot>
  <build evolutions conduits against the new pilot-link>

It did all work but every time you use red carpet to upgrade your
evolution you will probably have to remove pilot-link and gnome-pilot
afterwards.

If at first you don't succeed then sky diving is probably not for you.
