What I did under redhat was: rpm -e --nodeps pilot-link gnome-pilot <build new pilot-link> <build new gnome-pilot> <build evolutions conduits against the new pilot-link> It did all work but every time you use red carpet to upgrade your evolution you will probably have to remove pilot-link and gnome-pilot afterwards.
