Is it realistic to expect Eskil and company to be responsible for ensuring
that Ximian ships their value-added derivative in a form that doesn't break
existing installations? I don't think so, not unless they are being
compensated for their efforts.

Ximian has decided to make the latest and greatest versions of the various
Gnome applications available to their client base at the earliest
opportunity. If somebody is dissatisfied with the relative lack of quality
control this approach encompasses, they are perfectly free to go elsewhere
for their distribution needs. If enough people do so, either Ximian will
change their practices or another company will serve the needs of those who
value quality over time to market. This is the nature of the Free Market
system.

Gnome-Pilot is an open source application. You are perfectly free to work
with Ximian to resolve this or any other issue without Eskil's permision. I
am certain the good folks at Ximian would not turn down the free help.
