Sorry, ranting isn't helpful, is it :-)

Well, it's working now for a couple of days, although I had to delete
~/.gnome/gnome-pilot.d again, and I couldn't get it to configure with
gnomecc until I started gpilotd manually first.  At this point, it enough to
have the applet in my panel: when I start X, gpilotd seems to be getting
initialized correctly, and syncing works (although I do have to have
gnomecal running first for that conduit to work).

I build both gnome-pim and gnome-pilot (as well as most of the rest of
Gnome) from CVS.  I don't have your last several commits, since you started
adding the progress stuff -- waiting for a release to be announced first :-)
I configure with:

    ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var/lib

I will give a detailed report if/when I get the SIGINT problem again.
