This has been discussed too many times.
ATM, it looks like GNOME will continue using esd as soundserver.
Jorn provided a patch once, which removed all esd dependencies.
I hope that Leon (MAS) and the GStreamer/GNOME developers will soon
agree on how MAS should be integrated in GNOME
