See the May archives of gnome-love mailing list. In short gtop is going
to be rewritten by Martin and to include a host of experimental
technologies, and procman is an attempt at writing a simpler version.

Funny you would ask. I'm working on a couple of the TODO's for gtop.
What's wrong with gtop?

Hi All. I'm wondering if anyone would like to help with the new gtop
replacement. It's called procman and I made a first release a few days
ago. The web page is here:

A few people said they were interested and I tried to contact them, but
failed. Anyways this project would serve as a good introduction to GNOME
programming as it is quite simple, but uses many of the basic
technologies. It also uses e-tree which is the column-tree widget used
by evolution and is pretty neat.
I can think of a lot of things that need to done that are very simple;
things such as adding a right click popup menu etc.
Actually what would be really cool is if someone had any usablility
experience. A stated goal of the application is to have a nice
interface.
Any takers?
Love,
Kevin
