I was just reading today's LWN front page <http://lwn.net/>, and wondered
what we were doing to promote auditing action on the GNOME code... This is
certainly something that budding hackers can contribute to - even lodging
bugs about suspicious code would be very helpful.
Yes, and it also helps people to learn how to work with Open Source.
I found that reading other people's code is useful to understand the
"model" they followed in their application.
Perhaps we should have an Amazing Auditing Dude award of the week, published
in the GNOME summaries? It's very important for new contributors to feel
known and welcome, and I think this would be a good way to highlight some
tough work being done.
Sounds good to me. Do you want to start auditing code?
[ The tough part of this is that auditing is a difficult-to-quanitfy task.
Perhaps some of the 'elders' could recommend interesting ways of getting
into this. ]
I would think that just reading existing code and looking for
potential bugs and potential problems will start pin-pointing
problems.
Miguel.
