I used live USBs and booted them directly to the pc. After launching an app the desktop stops the flicker. I only see this issue between hitting activities button and choosing an app.

Can't help you there - all my machines are running amd graphics chips. Are you booting into the live cds directly or in a virtual machine?
The first screenshot is from openSUSE factory and the second from Ubuntu Gnome.Also in the second screenshot I couldn't even see the list of the apps.
