Lock Screen password problem

Hi, I am using a remote GNOME desktop running on CentOS 5 with SSH authentication. I've tried to enter my SSH password to unlock the screen but it returns as an incorrect password. How do I solve  this problem, or use root to unlock the user's lock screen?
