GNOME screensaver 4.05 question

I'm on sparc solaris 8 with Sun's GNOME/metacity.  The screensaver
that comes up says that it is version 4.05 .

When I enter the "slidescreen" screen saver properties, select
slidescreen, and then hit preview, I get xscreensaver errors,
saying that the child processes died with a code of 1.

The weird thing is that I don't see slidescreen on my sparc solaris 8
system.  I am uncertain where I might find it. Anyone else out there
using Sun's GNOME environment and who can point me where to find
slidescreen, so I can try to debug this problem?
